Jesus said to his disciples: “A good tree does not bear rotten fruit, nor does a rotten tree bear good fruit. For every tree is known by its own fruit. For people do not pick figs from thorn-bushes, nor do they gather grapes from brambles." (Luke 6:43-44)
The tree is made manifest by its fruit; so those that profess themselves to be Christians shall be recognized by their conduct. No man [truly] making a profession of faith sinneth; nor does he that possesses love hate any one. For there is not now a demand for mere profession, but that a man be found continuing in the power of faith to the end. -- St. Ignatius
